A super easy way for all of us to design stunning graphics
Canva has blown us away this week. We are fairly competent when it comes to creating graphics and brochures and we do know the basics of the Adobe Illustrator and InDesign but Canva might just be our go to app from here on in.
The results it gives are quite stunning and it is so easy to master it in a very short time. Use it for creating those inspirational quote images that are all over social media for infographics like our digital educator one. Use it for brochures, flyers or elements to app smash into other apps like Book Creator or Sway and Prezi.
The idea for Canva came about when Melanie Perkins was teaching graphic design programs at university and found students struggled to learn the basics. After a couple of iterations, the team soon realised that what they had created had the potential to have a huge impact.
We can’t help but agree, especially from an education point of view. As more and more teachers and learners produce digital content for learning, the need for high quality images is pressing and we all need to realise that we can’t just go ripping off other people’s work from Google images!
A great app for education
We think Canva is an exceptional app for education. The days of clip art and comic-sans need to be gone. Digital technology enables teachers and learners to create digital content so easily now but it’s also important that it looks good. Canva should be your new best friend.
There are tons of different templates for inspiration, with sizes optimised for various platforms: Twitter, Facebook, Instagram etc. This means your images will display brilliantly across social media.
The interface is simple and easy to use with virtually no help. It’s drag and drop time and the number of options are kept to a minimal whilst still allowing for a powerful set features. You can use different fonts, colours, backgrounds and images and the beauty of it is that they just look great, even if you are clueless when it comes to design.
What does it cost?
Basics are free with premium images and assets available at a small charge. There are quite a few free images and backgrounds and you can also upload your own images so there really is no need to pay for the premium content unless you really want to.
